Our community event has something for everyone from families to history buffs to those seeking a fun and entertaining day out with medieval re-enactments, storytelling, jousting, falconry, food, crafts, music and more....
The Stansted Medieval Fayre brings with it a wide range of events and activities for all the family to enjoy.
Try your hand as an eagle-eyed archer, discover mighty birds of prey with falconry demonstrations, see brave knights battle in thrilling re-enactments and spend the day in one of Stansted’s most beautiful country gardens at Stansted Hall.
The day will be a festival of fun, merriment and engaging historical activities.
From the excitement of the Pageant arriving at the sound of the St Mary’s Church Bells ringing, the children dressed in period costume and the Jousters leading the procession, the Medeival Fayre promises to be the highlight of the village calendar for 2015 and an event not to be missed.
The Thaxted Morris Men Dancers will jingle and dance for the crowd, followed by a beautiful display of Falconry from Fen’s Falconry and their team. There will be Archery and Longbow displays all day by the Bishop’s Stortford Archery Club and you too will be able to have a go at this exciting sport.
The highlight of the day, apart from the delicious hog roast and afternoon teas that will be brimming out of the food stalls, there will be a dazzling show of Jousting by the Stampede Stunt Company.
The Stansted Streets will be buzzing too with excitement getting into the spirit of the weekend that marks a special date in our history.
Locals are welcome to decorate their houses and gardens to commemorate the 800th Anniversary for the Magna Carta. Let us know if you do that and we will take some photos as add them to our site, with your permission of course!
Please contact us if you want to display an event poster at your home. 1 FREE TICKET will be allocated one per household when we see the poster displayed*. *Terms and conditions apply.
Crowds that gather in our usually sleepy little village will be in for a treat and will take part in repeating history, re-living the fun and magic of a bygone era.
The Medieval Fayre event is one of many events that has been organised by the Stansted Magna Carta Baron’s Association to commemorate the events that took place 800 years ago. It honours the 25 Baron’s in achieving the King’s acceptance of the Magna Carta, celebrating the freedom it gave to the commoners.
The Arthur Findlay College have a team of culinary mozarts who will prepare home made cakes and savoury foods that can be enjoyed on the day. Other food and beverages options will be available during the day including teas, coffee, soft drinks and much more including local real ales!
There will also be a picnic area for you to enjoy your own food. Please ensure to bring your own deckchairs and a blanket, unless you don’t mind sitting on the grass!
So come along and enjoy a cool beer in the sun - we hope for good weather!
The weekend will certainly bring a lot of attention to our village and we hope you will be able to take part and join us for this historic event.
